Christian Devotional Newsletter - 20 March 2003

March Greetings Dear Friends

"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid". (John 14:27).

The devotional newsletter is divided into four sections (please scroll down to your area of interest):

.::. Introduction & Welcome .::.

May the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings upon each of you.

Wars, rumours of wars...

The pursuit of world peace...

Jesus warned His children in Matthew chapter 24 of the events that would take place prior to His soon return. Wars was one event Jesus highlighted.

The war on Iraq has commenced. President Bush has chosen to ignore the requirement of a Second Resolution via the United Nations. Millions of people throughout the world are protesting against the pre-emptive strike, of which, Iraqi suvillians will suffer the most. (Please see latest breaking Iraqi news of the difficulties Christian minorities are facing from Muslim activists in the Breaking News section below). The UN is in discord as the Bush Administration have effectively ignored their rules and procedures. The European Union is also in disunion. Russia, France and Germany have expressed their objection over the UK's decision to support the war. The UK has witnessed unprecedented disapproval over the bombing campaign. At least 3 Members of Parliament have resigned including Robin Cook who stated in his resignatory speech that even if the USA and the UK had followed the legal route via the UN, it still does not make the war in Iraq the right choice, ethically or morally. Parliament applauded. Teenagers in their hundreds, skipping their school lessons, travelled to central London to protest outside Parliament voicing their concern over the war. An increase of Police activity including heightened surveillance, has swept across the UK, especially the guarding of sensitive and vulnerable key structures.

Many state that this war in disarming the Iraqi Government from using weapons of mass destruction will provide a peaceful solution to the future and to our children. Others claim that this war will simply fan the flames of terrorism and seeds of hatred and violence.

Irregardless, Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid". (John 14:27).

Are we receiving the peace of Christ which can only be received as we receive the mind of Christ by faith through the power of the Holy Spirit ? (Phil. 2:5).

Or are we deceived into accepting the idea that external peace can be achieved by pursuing a New World Order, that will soon deliver its child - the One World Religio-Government ? Did you know that the UN, which was set up after the world experienced the horrors of war, had its foundations laid down by at least 47 pro-confederacy Illuminati Council On Foreign Relations members who were among the American delegates in San Francisco in 1945 ?

Are we aware that The New World Order Plan boldly calls for Antichrist to rule as absolute dictator and that the theosophy witch Alice Bailey, in her book, "The Externalisation of the Hierarchy", states that the United Nations will disarm all the nations of the world, including nuclear weapons then, when the United Nations has control of all the nuclear weapons of the world, they will either "use them" or "threaten to use them" against any nation or organization who refuses to obey The Christ ? ! [P. 548].

Jesus says, "come, let us reason together." (Isa. 1:18). Satan conversely uses "force" to gain his adherents. The Bible states in Revelation 13:15, "And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause (or force) that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed."

Friends, now is the time to be ready for Jesus' soon return. Husbands, love your wives even as Christ loves His church. Bound your families to Christ in morning and evening prayer. Ask God for repentance and confession of sin, whilst we have Christ as our High Priest in the heavenly sanctuary. If we have wronged someone, let us make restitution today. Let our bellies be filled with the yearning desire to share the Everlasting Gospel of Revelation 14:6-12 to every nation, kindred, tongue and people, so that soon, very soon, we may be able to spend eternity with the King of kings and Lord of lords and ultimately find His rest.

In contrast, as Ana and I thank God for our beautiful 7 month old daughter, privileged to spend quality time together, at home in prayer and study, making the most of country walks admiring the fragrant spring flowers and enjoying cows and sheep grazing (without the threat of becoming breakfast, lunch or dinner !), being a witness for Christ, we realise that even so, this world is not our home but our "tent" (Temporary dwelling place). Like Abraham, we long for the Heavenly Canaan. Until the New Jerusalem and the ushering of the Everlasting Kingdom, this world will never become peaceful, and without a personal experience with Jesus, the world will fail to understand the true peace which originates from the Prince of Peace.

Although we have all fallen short of the glory of God, Jesus calls us to admire and study His perfect character, and be transformed by the renewing of our minds, from glory to glory through the power of the Holy Spirit. (Rom. 12:1 & 2; 2 Cor. 3:18).

May each of you be blessed by the following Bible study on the sanctuary and the sacrificial services that point to Christ as our Sacrifice, Christ our High Priest and Christ our soon Coming King.

"Thy way O God is in the sanctuary, who is so great a God as our God" (Psa. 77:13).

Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Blessings & Maranatha

.::. Bible Study - Part 4 - The Sanctuary Service A Type .::.

"Thy way O God is in the sanctuary, who is so great a God as our God" (Psa. 77:13).

"THE SANCTUARY SERVICE A TYPE"

The Bible reveals that the promises given by God to the patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, of a great nation emerging, was fulfilled. Abraham and his wife Sarah were told that a son would be given and that Sarah would be blessed by also becoming a "mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her." (Genesis 17:16). The same oath sworn by God unto Abraham was repeated to Isaac: "And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed." (Genesis 26:4). And again, the promise was handed down to Jacob, Isaac's son, that "a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins." (Genesis 35:11).

It came to pass that the sons of Jacob, who was renamed by God as Israel, resided in the land of Egypt and became "fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them." (Exodus 1:7). However, the prosperity of the children of Israel provoked the Egyptians to anger and jealousy, which led Israel to become a nation of slaves bonded to the grievous and heavy yoke of the Egyptians. (Exodus 1:11, 14). God had appointed a time for the Israelites to be freed from this rigorous servitude, by raising Moses to lead the children of Israel from Egypt into the wilderness. (Exodus 3:7-10; 12:40, 41). It was God's plan to remove all sensual, worldly and corrupting influences from the hearts of the Israelites, by educating His people to become a holy, healthy and happy nation. The Lord used detailed ceremonies to teach the Israelites the plan of salvation, and in particular, distinguishing the holiness of God and the wicked and deceptive way of the human sinful heart. (See Note 1.) Although inferior, the earthly sanctuary and its services, served as "an example and shadow of heavenly things". (Hebrews 8:5).

What were the children of Israel to make after their deliverance from Egypt and why were they to make it ? (See Exodus 25:8).

God commanded that the Israelites should build the Lord an earthly sanctuary for Him to dwell in. (See Note 2). The Bible also foretells the time when the heaven and the earth shall be made new, and the "tabernacle of God" shall be with men. "And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it." (Revelation 21:1, 3, 22).

What materials were used to construct the earthly sanctuary and where did these materials come from ? (Read Exodus 25:1 - 7; Exodus 11:1-3; 12:35, 36).

Describe the articles of furniture in the earthly sanctuary.

" Then verily the first covenant had also ordinances of divine service, and a worldly sanctuary. For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat..." (Hebrews 9:1 - 5)

THE SANCTUARY FURNISHINGS AND THE PRIESTHOOD

The "worldly sanctuary" (Hebrews 9:1) and the "true tabernacle" in heaven "which the Lord pitched, and not man" (Hebrews 8:1, 2, 5) are the two sanctuaries of God specifically brought to view in the Bible. The Scriptures reveal that the earthly or worldly sanctuary was divided into two rooms, wherein the first room, known as the "holy place", contained;

1. the candlestick, the table and shewbread and the alter of incense (Hebrews 9:2; Exodus 40:22-27),
whilst the second apartment, called "the most holy place" or "the holy of holies" contained;
2. the ark of the covenant containing the Ten Commandments, cherubim positioned at opposite ends of the mercy seat and the visible manifestation of Jehovah's presence, "the holy Shekinah" (Hebrews 9:3-5; Exodus 25:21, 22) . (For diagrams of the earthly sanctuary, click here).

From what source did Moses receive the ceremonial laws which included the various sacrificial systems ? (See Leviticus 7: 37, 38).

What was the purpose of the services that was performed in the earthly sanctuary and to Whom did they point to ? (See Hebrews 9:8-14; 10:1-14).

It is God's purpose to cleanse us from all sin. "For this is the will of God, even your sanctification..." (1 Thessalonians 4:3). As sin is the transgression of God's law (1 John 3:4), it is by the power of the Holy Spirit that God convicts us of sin, leads us to godly sorrow and repentance (2 Corinthians 7:9) and imparts His Spirit unto us to become obedient to His law that we may "live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world." (Titus 2:12). Hence, it was God's plan to reveal through the sanctuary service to convict the sinner of the need to permit God's Spirit to change the mind or conscience "from dead works to serve the living God". (Hebrews 9:14). The apostle Paul admonishes that we present our bodies "a living sacrifice, holy acceptable unto God" by being "transformed by the renewing of your mind." (Romans 12:1, 2). It is through the Eternal Spirit and the blood of Christ that our vile characters may be changed into pure vessels that Christ may reside in our hearts. The Bible clearly points out that the blood of animals cannot remove sins, but only by the sacrifice of Christ may man be perfected and sanctified. (Hebrews 10:10-14).

How long was the sacrificial system to continue ? (See Hebrews 9:8-12; 10:9).

It was "a figure for the time then present...imposed on them until the time of reformation." This ceremonial law was therefore limited, and extended only to the time when Christ offered Himself as our Sacrifice "once for all". (Hebrews 10:10). The shed blood of the sacrificial animals were to be a daily illustration of the death of Christ. When Christ died on the cross, the services of the first covenant was taken away, that the inauguration of the second covenant would take place where Christ would be both Sacrifice and High Priest. (Hebrews 10:9). This is the "new and living way" where we may have direct access to Christ as our High Priest, whose responsibility is to cleanse our minds from an evil conscience. (See Hebrews 10:19-23.).

What divided the "holy place" from "the most holy place" ? (See Exodus 26:31-33).

The building was divided into two apartments by a rich and beautiful curtain, or veil inwrought with threads of gold and silver angelic patterns to represent the angelic host who are connected with the work of the heavenly sanctuary and who are ministering spirits to the people of God on earth. (See Hebrews 1:7, 14).

What formed the entrance door to the first apartment of the earthly sanctuary and to the courtyard gate ? (See Exodus 26:36; 27:16).

Hangings of fine needlework formed the curtain or door. They were made from linen which is a white durable fabric. (See Exodus 26:1).

Of what colours were the inner veil, the tabernacle entrance and the courtyard gate composed of ? (See Exodus 26:31, 36; 27:16).

* The Inner Veil which separated the Holy Place from The Most Holy Place, represents the flesh of Jesus Christ. (Hebrews 10:20). It is by His blood that we may have the "boldness to enter the holiest" (Most Holy Place. See Hebrews 10:19). At the renting of the veil of the temple at Christ's death (Matthew 27:51), people might come to God, through the new and living way without priest or ruler. With open face, beholding as in a glass the hidden glory of the Lord of the holy of holies, through the power of Christ's blood, believers in Him may be changed into the same image, from glory to glory. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
* The Door, the entrance to the tabernacle, points to Christ where He says in John 10:9, "I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved..."
* The Gate of the Courtyard is mentioned by David in the book of Psalms where he declares that the "gate of the Lord" are the "gates of righteousness". (Psalms 118:19, 20). Jesus says, "strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." (Matthew 7:14).

The inner veil, the tabernacle door, the court gate and the hangings of the court were all made of "fine twined linen". As Christ is "the way, the truth, and the life..." and the "gate of righteousness", the linen may be regarded as symbols of purity, uprightness and pardon.

"Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord; though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red as crimson, they shall be as wool." (Isaiah 1:18).

Revelation 19:8 and Ephesians 5:27 refer to a church that "should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white, a church "not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing." The fine linen is the righteousness of Christ, that through faith, His own unblemished character is imparted to all who receive Him as their Personal Saviour.

Priestly Garments

The garments of the priests were also made of fine twined linen. In Exodus chapter 28, garments such as the priest's ephod, girdle, breastplate of judgment, coat and mitre were all made of fine twined linen. (Verses 6, 8, 15, 39).

The robes of the priests were never to be torn under any circumstances. "And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die and lest wrath come upon all the people..." (Leviticus 10:6). Hence, if this Levitical law was ignored by the high priest, he was to be sentenced to death. Everything worn by the priest was to be whole and without blemish. By those beautiful official garments was represented the character of the great antitype, Jesus Christ. Nothing but perfection, in dress and attitude, in word and spirit, could be acceptable to God.

There is at least one biblical account of a high priest who disobeyed the law given in Leviticus 10:6. When Christ was interrogated by Caiaphas the high priest in Jerusalem where the scribes and the elders assembled, Caiaphas asked Christ,

"...I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God. Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven. Then the high priest rent his clothes..."
(Matthew 26:63-65).

Caiaphas tore his garments in his protest over Christ confessing that He was the Son of God. Christ was accused of blasphemy ! However, in the high priest's blindness, he could not discern in the bruised and despised form of Jesus, that there stood the Son of the Living God. As the Levitical law prophesied, this act of Caiaphas led to "wrath...upon all the people" when Jerusalem and all its inhabitants were destroyed in the year 70 AD.

The Colours Used In The Sanctuary Service

The Bible reveals that the colours blue, purple and scarlet were used repeatedly in the furnishing of the sanctuary and its court. For example, these prementioned colours may be found as part of the inner veil, sanctuary door, court gate, ephod, girdle, breastplate of judgment and the pomegranates. (Exodus 26:31, 36; 27:16; 28:6, 8, 15, 33).

Blue: The children of Israel wore blue ribbands on the borders of (God's Law) their garments that this colour would be a continual reminder of God's Ten Commandments. (See Numbers 15:38-40). The Bible states that God's commandments is the measure of His righteousness or character. (See Psalms 119:172). Hence, the law of God is the foundation of His government and His throne. (See Exodus 24:10, Ezekiel 1:26 & 10:1).

Scarlet: Though our sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow. (Isaiah 1:18). We receive the forgiveness of sins by the washing of the blood of Christ. (See Romans 5:9 & Leviticus 17:11).

Purple: The Bible reveals that certain kings and men in authority (Kingly had the possession of a purple robe. (See Judges 8:26). Jesus was arrayed in a purple robe before Pilate and was hailed mockingly King of the Jews by the Roman Guard. (John 19:2, 3). However, Jesus will return to this earth in great power and glory as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. (Revelation 19:11-16).

It is interesting to note that the blending of the colours blue and scarlet produce the colour purple. Likewise, the aspects of the plan of salvation to which they point to also leads to a notable point. Christ, "the Lamb of God" and the Fulfiller of the Law (Matthew 5:17, 18 & John 1:29), may be described in similar terms. Christ's life revealed the character of God as He kept His Father's commandments (John 15:10) and He became and is, our innocent Sacrifice (Isaiah 53:5). Just as the colour purple cannot exist without the colours red and blue, neither could the government of God stand without the justice of God's law and the mercy through Christ's blood of cleansing and forgiveness. Let's look at the various furnishings that occupied the earthly sanctuary.

THE HOLY PLACE - The Seven-Branched Candlestick

These sacred apartments had no windows to admit light. The seven-branched candlestick which stood toward the south of the tabernacle, was made of purest gold and was kept burning night and day, and gave light to both apartments. (Exodus 25:31-40; Leviticus 24:1-4). The light of the lamps upon the candlestick reflected upon the boards plated with gold, at the sides of the building, and upon the sacred furniture and upon the curtains of beautiful colours with cherubim wrought with threads of gold and silver, which appearance was glorious beyond description. No language can describe the beauty and loveliness and sacred glory which these apartments presented. The gold in the sanctuary reflected the colors of the curtains, which appeared like different colours of the rainbow. Jesus says, "I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." (John 8:12. See also John 1:4-10, John 3:19-21). In the New Jerusalem, Jesus the "Lamb of God" (John 1:29), is described as being the Light of the City together with the Father (Revelation 21:23). The earthly candlestick had seven lamps which were fed by olive oil. These lamps are described in the book of Zechariah, chapter 4. This holy oil which runs through the golden pipes represents the Holy Spirit which flows through the heart of those who practise the truth. The seven lamps are described as being the "eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth." (Zechariah 4:10). The apostle John identifies that the "seven lamps of fire burning before the throne" of God in the heavenly sanctuary are "the seven Spirits of God". (Revelation 4:5). Where do the seven Spirits of God originate from? John further observes "a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth." (Revelation 5:6). It is the Spirit of Christ which works by love and purifies the soul.

THE HOLY PLACE - The Table of Shewbread

The table of shewbread which stood on the north side of the first apartment or holy place, was made of shittim wood and was overlaid with pure gold. (Exodus 25:23-30). On this table the priests were each Sabbath to place twelve cakes, arranged in two piles, and sprinkled with frankincense. The loaves that were removed, being accounted holy, were to be eaten by the priests. (Leviticus 24:5-9). The shewbread was kept ever before the Lord. Thus it was part of the daily sacrifice. It was called "shewbread", or "bread of presence", because it was ever before the face of the Lord. It was acknowledgement of man's dependence upon God for both temporal and spiritual food, and that it was received only through the mediation of Christ. God had fed Israel in the wilderness with bread from heaven (Exodus 16). Both the manna and the shewbread pointed to Christ, the living Bread, who is ever "in the presence of God for us" (Hebrews 9:24). Christ said, "I am the living bread which came down from heaven". (John 6:48-51).

THE HOLY PLACE - The Golden Alter Of Incense

Directly before the ark, but separated by the inner veil or second curtain, was the golden alter of incense. (Exodus 30:1-10). The fire upon this alter was kindled by the Lord Himself, and was sacredly cherished by feeding it with holy incense, which filled the sanctuary with its fragrant cloud night and day. Its fragrance extended for miles around the tabernacle. When the priest offered the incense before the Lord he looked to the mercy seat. Although he could not see it he knew it was there, and as the incense arose like a cloud, the glory of the Lord descended upon the mercy seat and filled the most holy place and was visible in the holy place, and the glory often so filled both apartments that the priest was unable to officiate and was obliged to stand at the door of the tabernacle. The priest in the holy place, directing his prayer by faith to the mercy seat, which he could not see, represents the people of God directing their prayers to Christ before the mercy seat in the heavenly sanctuary. " And another angel came and stood at the alter, having a golden censer; and there was given unto him much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all saints upon the golden alter which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel's hand." (Revelation 8:3, 4).

The incense, ascending with the prayers of Israel, represents the merits and intercession of Christ, His perfect righteousness, which through faith is imputed to His people, and which can alone make the worship of sinful beings acceptable to God. Christ loved us "and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour". (Ephesians 5:2). By blood and by incense God was to be approached - symbols pointing to the great Mediator, through whom sinners may approach Jehovah, and through whom alone mercy and salvation can be granted to the repentant, believing soul.

THE MOST HOLY PLACE - The Ark Of His Testament

God gave a pattern of the ark to Moses, with special directions how to make it (Exodus 25:10-22). The ark was made to contain the tables of stone, on which God engraved with his own finger, the Ten Com- mandments (Exodus 24:12; 32:15, 16). It was in the form of a chest, and was overlaid and inlaid with pure gold. It was ornamented with crowns of gold round about the top. The cover of this sacred chest was the mercy seat, made of solid gold. On each end of the mercy seat was fixed a cherub (angel) of pure gold. Their faces were turned toward each other and were looking reverentially downward toward the mercy seat, which represented all the heavenly angels looking with interest and reverence upon the law of God deposited in the ark of the heavenly sanctuary. These cherubs had wings. One wing of each angel was stretched forth on high, while the other wing of each angel covered his form. Above the mercy seat was the "Shekinah", the manifestation of the Divine Presence; and from between the cherubim, God made known His will. As Moses was required to place the tables of the testimony, God's Ten Commandments, into the earthly ark, the ark was called the ark of the testimony.

When Jesus was asked, "what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" Jesus replied, "if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments". (Matthew 19: 16, 17.). Jesus then defines some of the Ten Commandments, "Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness. Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 19: 18,19). Jesus says, "If you love me, keep my commandments." (John 14: 15). The Revelator states "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates of the city." (Revelation 22:14).

Paul under inspiration writes concerning Christ's new covenant, "This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more." (Hebrews 10:16, 17).

The apostle John observed the original Ten Commandments in heaven, "And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in His temple the ark of His testament..." (Revelation 11: 19).

THE COURTYARD - The Laver

Outside of the earthly tabernacle, stood the laver, which the priests used to wash their hands and their feet whenever they went into the sacred apartments, or approached the alter to offer a burnt offering unto the Lord. (Exodus 30: 18-21). Moses at the burning bush was directed to put off his sandals, for the ground whereon he stood was holy. (Exodus 3:1-5). So the priests were not to enter the sanctuary with shoes upon their feet. Particles of dust cleaving to them would desecrate the holy place. They were to leave their shoes in the court before entering the sanctuary. Thus was constantly taught the lesson that all defilement must be put away from those who would approach into the presence of God. Jesus offers to wash our sins by the cleansing of His Word. (Ephesians 5:26).

THE COURTYARD - The Brazen Alter Of Burnt Offerings

Between the court entrance and the
laver, stood the brazen alter of burnt
offerings. Every morning and evening
a lamb of a year old was burned upon
this alter with its appropriate meat
offering, thus symbolising the daily
consecration and constant dependence
upon the atoning blood of Christ. (Exodus
27:1-8; 29:38-42
). God expressly directed that every offering presented for the service of the sanctuary should be "without blemish". (Exodus 12:5). The priests were to examine all animals brought as a sacrifice, and were to reject every one in which a defect was found. Only an offering "without blemish" could be a symbol of His perfect purity who was to offer Himself as "a Lamb without blemish and without spot". (1 Peter 1:19). The apostle Paul points to these sacrifices as an illustration of what the followers of Christ are to become. He says, "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies
a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable
unto God, which is your reasonable
service." (Romans 12:1). We are to
give ourselves to the service of God,
and we should seek to make the
offering as nearly perfect as possible.
God will not be pleased with anything
less than the best we can offer. Christ,
without blemish and without spot, the
antitypical Lamb of God, was nailed to
the cross between the third and the sixth
hour, that is, between nine and twelve
o'clock. In the afternoon he died. This
was the hour of the evening sacrifice.
Christ had suffered death for every man.
As our sins were upon Him, He sensed
the Father's wrath and the separation
that sin makes between God and man, and
our Saviour cried, "My God, My God, why
hast thou forsaken Me?" (Matthew 27:46).

Who were set apart for the work of the priesthood in the earthly sanctuary ? (Exodus 28:1; Numbers 8:10-19. See Exodus 32:25-28).

The priesthood was regarded as the birthright of the eldest son but God chose the tribe of Levi to be set apart for the sanctuary services. However, of the tribe of Levi, only the family of Aaron were permitted to sacrifice, to burn incense or to see holy things uncovered.

What event took place after the furnishings of the tabernacle and of the court were set up ? (See Exodus 40:9-16).

The furnishings as well as the priesthood of Aaron and his sons, were all anointed by the anointing of oil and were sanctified.

Anointed = Messiah = Christ

The temple was anointed by anointing oil. Christ, who is the Temple (John 2:19, 21), was anointed by the Holy Ghost. (Acts 10:38. See also Daniel 9:25; 1 Thessalonians 4:3; 1 Corinthians 3:16, 17).

NOTES:

1) The inspired prophet Jeremiah declared that "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it ?" (Jeremiah 17:9).

2) The word sanctuary may also be referred to as tabernacle or temple in the various portions of Scripture.

The ASD Church was founded thanks to service and sermons of Brother Vladimir Krupsky and Vasily Kostyuk, who conducted the evangelical program in summer 1992. In July 2002 we altogether with all the Church came to the border of the 10th anniversary of the presence of the adventist message in the town of Nova Kahovka. The Church grew substantially in terms of membership during this period, thus inciting the urge of a specially designated place for public worship. Our parishioners are far from being wealthy persons (most of them make living with a poor pension), and during the whole period of the Church's existence its budget could scarcely meet the costs of the rent of a hall at the local Palace of Culture. At present more and more people are getting interest in the Word of God, and the hall which is being rented currently, will fail to give enough room for all the interested persons in the near future. More over, the owner of the premise is rejecting our renting agreement during holidays quite
often, and the Church has to huddle together in a small, overcrowded room. This room has no conveniences, and no heating during winter, this is why in winter many perons freeze even in warm coats and have cold afterwards. All these hardships are making us find possibilites of erecting our own House of Pray. The Southern Conference of the Ukrainian Union is supporting us and is ready to give a feasible help in realization of this dream, but the amount is insuffucient to for realization of a "turn-key" construction project
or buying an existing building. This is why we wish to buy a half-constructed house, which can be finished with minimal expenditures. We prepared a project. Price of the land with all necessary communications and basement with half -constructed house is about $ 20 000. The cost of the whole project is $ 70 000. The breadboard model of the project and video can be looked on www.rem.ks.ua Our earnest request to you is to give us the amount which is necessary for the realization of this project. We know and believe that Jesus promised his assistance in words of Math. 7:7. Let the Good Lord give you hundred times more for your generosity!

With christian love, brothers and sisters of the town of Nova Kahovka, Ukraine. Alexander Kripakov

> Iraqi Christians Face Unknowns of War: Muslims Accelerate Religious Rhetoric, Intolerance
Barbara G. Baker

(Compass) As a U.S.-led war to topple Iraqi President Saddam Hussein begins, Iraq’s small Christian minority fears more than American bombs. They expect to be targeted by a growing tide of Islamic militancy now
being encouraged in the secularized Arab state. Numbering less than 400,000, Iraq’s Christian community has in recent months become the object of overt discrimination by Muslim elements. The attacks have ranged from verbal abuse and graffiti campaigns to stone-throwing and even brutal assassinations. Over the past few weeks, anti-Christian rhetoric has dominated Friday-prayer sermons in Baghdad’s mosques. Although Saddam Hussein initially kept religion out of Iraq’s political life, he began to encourage devotion to Islam after the 1991 Gulf War. Four years ago he launched a “faith campaign” to promote a revival of Islam, building scores of new mosques and religious schools across the country.

[Ministry Of Healing Comments: Let us pray for the dedicated Christian minority in Iraq. Would we remain faithful under similar persecution ? Jesus stated "Blessed are they that are persecuted" for His name sake.]

> Friday 7 March - Muslim cleric jailed for incitement - LONDON (Reuters)

Supporters of a Muslim cleric have created uproar at the Old Bailey, shouting "Allah is the only judge" and punching their fists in the air as their leader was jailed for inciting murder. Judge Peter Beaumont ordered the public gallery at the central criminal court to be cleared after pandemonium broke out when he sentenced Jamaican-born Sheikh Abdullah el-Faisal to nine years in jail on Friday. Faisal, a former supporter of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, had been convicted of urging his followers to kill non-believers in a holy war. "Instead of calming fears you fanned the flames of hostility," Beaumont told him before the public gallery outburst. "You blatantly set out to stir up racial hatred." Jamaican-born Faisal, 39, was convicted last month on three charges of incitement to murder. He was also found guilty then of three counts of stirring up racial hatred through the use of threatening and abusive words, both in person and through recordings. Faisal, who was also ordered to be deported from Britain on release, was arrested by anti-terrorist police last year. He had urged his followers to use chemical and nuclear weapons in an Islamic holy war, the court had heard. During February's trial, prosecutor David Perry said: "He encouraged his audiences to wage war against non-believers, in particular Hindus, Jews and any citizen of the United States of America." Faisal made a series of tapes -- with names such as "Jihad" and "No Peace with Jews" -- which were distributed throughout the country for sale in Islamic book shops. One of the tapes included a cover picture and the voice of bin Laden, head of the al Qaeda network which Washington blames for the September 11 attacks on the United States. In his defence, Faisal said he only preached what he had learned from the Koran. He also said that while he once regarded bin Laden as a hero for the Muslim people, he believed the Saudi-born fugitive had "lost the path" since September 11. After the verdict, it emerged judge Peter Beaumont had almost halted the trial halfway through after an apparent attempt to bribe him with 50,000 pounds. The matter has been referred to police but there was no indication Faisal was connected. Faisal, a former devout Christian, converted to Islam as a teenager and went on to study the faith in Saudi Arabia. He moved to Britain in the 1990s and later became Imam of the Brixton Mosque. Authorities say shoebomber Richard Reid, jailed in the U.S. for attempting to down a trans-Atlantic flight, and accused September 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui, now in U.S. custody, met at the mosque. Faisal denied knowing them. Faisal, who was cleared of three other charges, was convicted under the Offences Against the Persons Act, a 140-year-old British law rarely invoked in modern times.

[Ministry Of Healing Comments: Could laws in the UK and indeed worldwide eventually convict Christians as law-breakers whose gospel message includes calling the Roman Catholic Church "abominable", the "mother of harlots", the "beast" and modern spiritual "Babylon" ?
